The Omega ManDue to an experimental vaccine, Dr. Robert Neville is the only survivor of an apocalyptic war waged with biological weapons. The plague caused by the war has killed everyone else except for a few hundred deformed, nocturnal people calling themselves 'The Family'. During the day, he roams through the vacant city. At night, he fends off a bloodthirsty horde of mutant scavengers garbed in Spanish inquisition robes and sunglasses, led by Matthias, a former television newscaster in his good ol'; pre-mutant days.

Critic Reviews of "The Omega Man"Chicago ReaderDecember 10, 2007
Not bad, but far from a classic.VarietySeptember 19, 2007
An extremely literate science-fiction drama.Time OutJanuary 26, 2006
Averagely competent exercise in comic strip sci-fi.New York TimesMay 09, 2005
Peppered with some sharp, even amusing dialogue, the story temporarily shelves the heavy allegory and slips into good, slam-bang suspense. But it doesn't last.Chicago Sun-TimesOctober 23, 2004
The ghouls are a little too ridiculous to quite fulfill their function in the movie. They make all the wrong decisions, are incompetent and ill-coordinated.EmanuelLevy.ComAugust 28, 2011
Unsatisfying sci-fi thriller, though it's not Charlton Heston's faultEmpire MagazineApril 29, 2008
Sadly another film to file under 'not as good as the book.'Film4April 29, 2008
Despite not having aged particularly well, the opening sections of this sci-fi allegory remain potent, although the rest of its apocalyptic storyline is decidedly leaden.Movie MetropolisDecember 22, 2007
...not an awful film, just a remarkably dull one.Antagony & EcstasyDecember 19, 2007
A breezy film about the death of mankind in a way that only the '70s could have provided.TV GuideSeptember 19, 2007
Another misfired adaptation of Richard Matheson's fine science fiction novel I Am Legend.FulvueDrive-in.comOctober 09, 2005
Despite being baked in early '70s cheese, The Omega Man is easily the most entertaining film version of Richard Matheson's sci-fi novel, I Am Legend
